The RNC16 were a group of protesters from the Revolution Club arrested in downtown Cleveland during the Republican National Convention in 2016. Joey Johnson was about to burn an American flag when he and those who had surrounded him for protection were arrested by Cleveland Police. The trial was farcical, as the Cleveland Police didn’t seem to be clear that it is legal to burn the flag. This was determined in the 1989 case Texas v. Johnson by the US Supreme Court. The charges were dropped on all of the defendants.
Leading up to the trial the Revolution Club issued this flyer to call on people to step up to play various roles in a mock trial on the steps of the Cleveland Justice Center, which houses the Courthouse in downtown Cleveland.
